Counseling

In person and Telehealth Options

COUNSELING

Hi, I'm Hannah Bayne! I am a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) and educator currently residing in Roanoke, VA. I am licensed in both Virginia and Florida and can thus accept clients via Telehealth from both states. I currently work full time as a faculty member for Virginia Tech but keep a very small practice to stay engaged in this work.

I have my PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision (Old Dominion University, 2011) and received my masters degree in community counseling from the College of William and Mary (2009). I became licensed to practice counseling in the state of Virginia in 2014, and was licensed by endorsement in Florida in 2019. I have experience working with young adult/adult populations for a variety of clinical issues.

I have particular interest/experience in:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Stress Management

  • Adjustment/Life Transitions

  • Sexual and Gender Identity

  • Self Harm

  • Interpersonal Issues/Relationships

  • Cultural Issues

  • Identity Exploration/Development

  • Grief and Loss

  • Spiritual/Religious Issues

  • Career Exploration and Development

  • Postpartum Issues

  • Postraumatic Healing

My approach to counseling is eclectic – I like to select theories and techniques based on what is needed by each client. My primary clinical approaches are Humanistic/Person Centered, Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Narrative, Existential, and Adlerian. I have received additional training in incorporating spirituality/religion in counseling, grief and loss counseling, utilizing meditation in counseling, and strength-based counseling. I also conduct research in the areas of cultural differences, issues of oppression and marginalization, empathy, and value conflicts (particularly related to religion, sexual/gender identity, and political identity).

I believe that each client is unique and requires an individual approach. I also believe that people have a desire for wholeness and growth, and that by understanding themselves and tapping into their own strengths and insights they can implement lifelong changes.

I lived for a short time in Peru and enjoy learning about other cultures. I also love to run, cook, and spend time with my family. I would love the chance to get to know you and support you on your own journey towards wholeness!

In Person Counseling

In person counseling is offered on Fridays at office space in Roanoke, VA. I work full time as a faculty member for Virginia Tech, and therefore in person session options are limited. Sessions are 45-50 minutes.

Payment: Due to the difficulty with pursuing insurance reimbursement, and the part time nature of the practice, I am currently only able to accept self-pay. I can provide a receipt that can be submitted to your insurance provider. My session fee is $150/hr, but I offer sliding scale options based on financial need.

Please reach out if you would like to inquire about availability!

Telemental Health

I am able to provide sessions via telemental health (video chat) for residents of Virginia and Florida. Sessions are 45-50 minutes and clients must be able to call in from a secure and private location. Telemental health isn't for everyone, so I like to have an initial chat with potential clients to see if this modality is right for you.
